1/2 cup shortening (Crisco).
1 cup milk.
3 tsp baking powder.
1/2 tsp baking soda.
2 cups Black Walnuts.
2 cups sugar.
3 cups cake flour.
1 tsp Vanilla.
4 eggs.

Directions:
Directions:
Cream shortening and add sugar a little at a time. Mix together. Separate egg yokes from whites. beat egg yokes and add to mixture.

Sift flour 1 cup at a time. Sift baking soda and add to flour a little at a time.

Beat egg whites until stiff. Add nuts to batter then fold in egg whites. Add Vanilla to mixture and beat.

Bake at 350 degrees for about an hour. Use a tube cake pan greased and lined with waxed paper.

**Leave 1 cup nuts whole and chop up the other cup.

Cool in pan 10 minutes
