2 c. sifted flour
4 T. baking powder
1/2 c. shortening
2/3 c. milk
1 T. sugar
1/2 t. salt
1 beaten egg

Directions:
Directions:
Sift together dry ingredients, cut in shortening until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Combine egg and milk, add to flour mixture all at once. Stir until dough follows fork around the bowl.

Turn out on lightly floured surface, knead gently with heal of hand, about 20 strokes. Roll 3/4 inch. Dip 2 inch biscuit cutter in flour, cut straight down. Place on ungreased baking sheet (1/4 inch apart for crusty, close for soft). If desired, chill l 1-3 hours. Bake in 450 degrees oven for 10-14 minutes.
