Hand mix all
CAKE:
Mix the first three ingredients and set aside;
1-1/4 cups boiling water
1 cup QUAKER Oats (quick or old fashioned, uncooked)
1/2 cup (1 stick) butter
Mix the following wet together;
1 cup granulated sugar
I cup firmly packed brown sugar
2 eggs
1/2 c applesauce
1 teaspoon vanilla
Now mix all the above all together;
Take the dry ingredients and sift together (flour and spices)
1-1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg

Pour the mixed batter into a 9x13 cake pan that is well greased bake in oven at 350 degrees for 50 min. (wooden pick should come out clean when tested for doneness)
Leave in pan and frost with the following:

Topping:( I personally like to double this recipe for the topping)
3/4 c flaked coconut
1/2 c packed brown sugar
1/2 c chopped nuts
1/4 c butter
3 tbls milk
Combine all ingredients mix well. Spread over the baked hot cake. Broil for 2 min four inches from broiler, or just till bubbly and brown. This burns easily watch it! Cool and serve.
