3/4 cup butter, softened
1 cup sugar
1 large egg
1 tsp peppermint extract
1/2 tsp vanilla
2 1/4 cups flour
red food coloring

Directions:
Directions:
In large bowl, cream butter and sugar
Add egg and beat well
Stir in peppermint and vanilla extracts
Gradually mix in the flour

Divide dough in half. Color one half with red food coloring, leave the other half plain

Roll out about a tsp of red dough and a tsp of plain dough til they are about 4-6" long
Twist them into a candy cane, pinching the ends

Put on ungreased baking sheet not too close together and bake @350º for approx 8 minutes or until set but not brown

After removing from oven sprinkle crushed peppermint candy on top

I put the cookie sheets (with the cookies on it) in the freezer for about 10-15 minutes before baking. This keeps them from spreading too much while baking
