1 cup butter (softened)
2 cups sugar
4 eggs
1 tsp vanilla
1 cup buttermilk
2 cups self rising flour
4 TBSP cocoa

Directions:
Directions:
Cream butter and sugar. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each. Sift and measure flour. Sift flour again with cocoa. Add flour-cocoa mixture to creamed mixture, a little at a time, alternating with buttermilk, beginning and ending with flour. Add vanilla and blend at low speed. Mix only until blended. Grease and flour four 9 in. cake pans. Divide batter into pans. Layers will be thin. Bake at 350º for 18 to 20 minutes until cake leaves the sides of pan. Cool in pans for 10 minutes before removing to wire racks to cool completely.
