1 cup butter (softened)
1 1/2 cups sugar
4 egg yolks (save the whites for icing)
1 tsp. vanilla
2 Tbsp. milk
3 cups flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. baking powder

Directions:
Directions:
Mix butter and sugar until well blended. Blend in the egg yolks. Add vanilla and milk. In a separate bowl, combine the dry ingredients, and slowly add into the mixture. Roll the dough out into a log and refrigerate for at least 1.5 to 2 hours. When you are ready, preheat the oven to 350. Roll the dough about a 1/4 inch thick and cut with cutters. The cookies should bake about 7 minutes. Remember, do NOT overbake! Acutally, the cookies appear underdone, not even a light brown. Cool completely before icing (it actually helps to refrigerate the cookies before you ice them).

Icing:
1/2 tsp. butter softened
3/4 tsp. vanilla
2 egg whites
4 cups powdered sugar (approximately)

Beat egg whites until frothy. Stir in butter and vanilla. Slowly add the powdered sugar. If the icing is too runny, add more sugar. If it is too thick, add water VERY SLOWLY until consistency is right. Color with food coloring and spread on. Cookies taste best if the icing is allowed to harden by being uncovered for about a day.
