1 c. chopped pitted, dates
½ c. sugar
½ c. water
½ c. nuts, chopped
Combine and cook slowly until thick, set aside to cool.


1/2 c. shortening
1 c. brown sugar, packed
1 egg
1 tsp. vanilla
2 c. flour
½ tsp. salt
½ tsp. soda

Directions:
Directions:
Cook dates, water, sugar and nuts until thick. Set aside to cool.
Cream shortening, sugar and egg. Add dry ingredients to make a stiff dough. Roll into a rectangle and spread date mixture and roll up as a jelly roll. Chill at least 2 hours. Slice the roll and place on greased cookie sheet. Bake @375º for 10 - 12 minutes.
