1 Cup sugar
1 egg
½ cup cocoa
½ teaspoon salt
½ cup shortening
1 teaspoon vanilla
½ cup sour milk
½ cup hot water
1 teaspoon baking soda
2 cups sifted flour


Ingredients: the cream filling

1 egg white
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 tablespoons evaporated milk
1 cup confectioner’s sugar
½ cup soft butter

Dissolve cocoa powder in hot water. Cream together sugar, shorting, egg, and vanilla. Add coca mixture to the creamed mixture then add the flour alternating with sour milk. Stir just enough to make a smooth batter.
Drop a teaspoon full of batter 2 inches apart on a greased baking sheet. Bake at 375 degrees for 8 to 10 minutes. When cooled pit together with the cream filling.

Cream filling
Beat 1 egg white until stiff. Add 1 teaspoon vanilla, 2 tablespoons of evaporated milk, 1 cup confectioner’s sugar and ½ cup soft butter. Beat mixture until fluffy with an electric mixer at high speed.
