Crumble:
2 slices whole wheat bread into 1/2 cup milk.

When moist, add and mix well:
1 egg
1 chopped onion (I have substituted 1 tbsp dried minced onion)
2 pounds lean ground meat
1 1/2 tsp garlic salt
2 tbsp parsley
1/4 tsp pepper
1/4 tsp basil (me, not her)

Directions:
Directions:
Mix thoroughly and mold into a loaf in a shallow baking dish or loaf pan. Place 4 strips of bacon on top and bake at 350° for about 1 hour or until meat thermometer reads 185°. Pour one small can tomato sauce over too 15 minutes before removing from oven.

Personal Notes:
Personal Notes:
Grandma Pete tended to use crushed saltine crackers as her binding, which she added to the milk until there was just a little moisture left in the bowl. Her recipes are fun. This is my best approximation.
