1 c softened shortening
¼ c firmly packed brown sugar
¼ c white sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp vanilla
2 c flour
1 tsp salt
1 tsp baking soda
1 (12 oz) pkg chocolate chips
1 c chopped pecans

Directions:
Directions:
Beat shortening, sugars, eggs, and vanilla until light and fluffy. Mix flour with soda, and salt and blend into shortening mixture. Stir in nuts and chips. Drop by spoonfuls onto cookie sheet and bake at 375º F for 10 minutes.

I usually double this recipe when I make them. These are crunchy cookies and I like them that way, but I've learned that you can make them a little softer by changing the sugar ratio to more brown sugar than white.
You can also leave as is and place the cookies in a Tupperware bowl with a lid and put 1-2 pieces of bread in it and let sit overnight. In the morning the cookies will be soft and the bread will be hard.
