1 c. sugar
½ c. shortening
2 eggs
¼ c. molasses
1 c. hot water
3½ c. all purpose flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. baking powder
1½ tsp. ginger
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. cloves
½ tsp. nutmeg

Frosting
2 c. powdered sugar
3 tsp. butter, softened
2 tsp. maple extract
1 tsp. vanilla extract
¼ tsp. salt

Directions:
Directions:
In large bowl combine shortening and sugar. Add eggs and molasses. Mix well. In separate bowl, combine flour, baking soda, baking powder, ginger, cinnamon, cloves and nutmeg. Add dry ingredients to egg mixture alternating with the water. Chill for 1 hour. Preheat oven to 400º. Drop by spoonful onto greased baking sheet. Bake 10-12 min. Let cool before frosting.
