1 tsp. sugar
1 cup luke-warm water and dissolve sugar
1 Tbs. active dry yeast (Red Star)
Put into large bowl.
4 cups warm water
5 tsp. salt
4 Tbs. sugar, stir into yeast mixture.
2 cups all-purpose flour
4 Tbs. melted lard (shorting is best)

Directions:
Stir in flour until very stiff dough. When stiff put on floured board and kneed with hands without dough becoming ragged. Put into large greased container, cover and let double in size. Work dough down and put into greased loaf pans or shape into rolls. Let double in size again. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes. When done rub butter on tops and turn out on clean towel. Cover to cool.
