2 c flour
1 tsp ginger
1/4 tsp cloves (optional)
2 tsp baking soda
1 tsp cinnamon
3/4 c shortening
1 c sugar
1 egg
1/4 c molasses

Directions:
Directions:
Mix dry ingredients. Cream shortening until soft, gradually adding sugar, and cream till fluffy. Beat in egg and molasses. Blend in dry ingredients. Roll cookie balls in sugar and place on ungreased cookie sheet. Bake at 350º for about 8 min. Yum!

A tip for any cookies: once the shortening/margarine/butter, sugar, and eggs are blended, beat for about 5 minutes, scraping bowl in between.
