Ingredients:
Ingredients:
2 cups sugar
1 cup shortening
1/2 t. salt
2 eggs

Cream together real well.

Add 1/2 cup sour milk - mix well
Add another 1/2 cup sour milk to which 1 level tsp of soda has been added, after stirring well (the soda and the milk) then add 2 cups flour with 1 rounded tsp of baking powder - mix well

Add 1 T. vanilla, then add enough flour to make a dough that can just be handled. Keep your board well floured to keep dough from sticking, but do not knead it anymore than you have to - too much flour makes a hard cookie.
Roll out - cut in shapes

12 minutes 375

You will need about 3 cups of extra flour

Personal Notes:
This is my great grandmother Taft's sugar cookie recipe. It takes time to get the feel of making these cookies, but they are worth the time and effort.
