shortening
milk

Directions:

Cover chicken with water add 1 teaspoon salt, pepper and basil, boil chicken until done about an hour.
after chicken has cooled, peel meat off bone, discard bone and skin.
add chicken back to cooled, cooked broth

Mix 2 cups of flour, 2 -3 teaspoons of baking powder, 1-2 teaspoons of salt, 1 teaspoon of pepper, cut in 5 tablespoons of shortening with a pastry blender or fork. Add 1-2 cups of milk, mix in enough milk to make a sticky dough, drop from spoon into hot broth cook for 5-10 minutes uncovered, cover and cook for 15 more minutes.
