¾ cup shortening
1cup firmly packed brown sugar
½ cup granulated sugar
1 egg
¼ cup water
1 tsp. vanilla
1 cup sifted all-purpose flour
1 tsp. salt
½ tsp. soda
3 cups oats-uncooked
Optional:
chopped nuts
raisins
chocolate chips
coconut

Directions:
Directions:
Beat shortening, sugar, eggs, water and vanilla together until creamy. Sift together flour, salt and soda. Add to creamy mixture, blend well. Stir in oats. Dropped by spoonful onto grease cookie sheet. Bake in preheated moderate oven 350° for 12 to 15 minutes. For a variety, add chopped nut meats, raisins, chocolate chips or coconuts.
