Ingredients:
Ingredients:
3/4 cup shortening (butter)
1 cup sugar
1/4 cup molasses
1 egg
2 tsp baking soda
2 cups flour (white)
1/2 tsp ground cloves
1/2 tsp ground ginger
1 tsp ground cinnamon
1/2 tsp salt

Directions:
Directions:
Pre-heat oven to 375F.

Melt butter over low heat in pot on stove. Remove from heat and cool.
Then add sugar, molasses and egg. Beat well.

In a separate bowl, sift flour, baking soda and spices (includ. salt). Add this to the first mixture.
Refrigerate the mixture until cool (it will be too sticky to handle otherwise).

Form into 1" balls with your hands, and roll in a dish of granulated white sugar to thoroughly coat each ball.

Place on a greased cookie sheet, 2" apart. I suggest using parchment paper or a baking mat as no greasing is required.

Bake 8-10 minutes. Important: let cool on the cookie sheet for a few minutes before lifting to put on a wire rack or plate.
