½ cup white sugar
1½ cup packed brown sugar
2 eggs
2 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 teaspoon baking soda
2 teaspoons hot water
¾ teaspoon salt
2½ cups all-purpose flour
2 cups semisweet chocolate chips
1 cup chopped walnuts (optional)

Preheat oven to 350º
Cream together the butter, white sugar, and brown sugar until smooth. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla. Dissolve baking soda in hot water. Add to batter along with salt. Stir in flour, chocolate chips, and nuts. Chill dough for 30 minutes in refrigerator. Drop by large spoonfuls onto ungreased pans. (I use silicone mats or parchment paper on my baking pans.)
Bake for about 10 minutes in the preheated oven, or until edges are nicely browned.
Remove cookies after 10 min 11 tops, cool for about 2-3 minutes on the sheet, then transfer to racks. That's the secret to getting that chewy, gooey goodness! Trust me, they should come out of the oven looking under-baked!
