Version 1:
1 c. sugar
1 c. powdered sugar
1 c. margarine
1 c. oil
1 tsp. vanilla
2 eggs
4 1/2 c. flour
1 tsp. soda
1 tsp. cream of tartar
1 tsp. salt


Version 2:
1/2 c. butter
1 c. sugar
1 egg
1/2 tsp. vanilla
1/2 tsp. salt
2 tsp. baking powder
2 Tbsp. milk
2 c. flour

Glaze: 3/4 c. powdered sugar, 3-4 tsp. water and food coloring

Version 1:
Oven to 375º
Mix wet ingredients until well blended. Mix dry ingredients together and mix in with wet mixture. Cover and refrigerate 2 hours. Please on ungreased baking sheets. Flatten with glass and sprinkle with sugar. Bake 5-8 minutes just until set - not browned.


Version 2:
Cream butter and sugar. Blend in egg and vanilla. Sift dry ingredients together and add milk. Mix well.

Chill for 1 hour and make balls - roll in powdered sugar and bake at 375º for 5-8 minutes. Brush warm cookies with glaze.
