"A man who was fond of wine was offered some grapes at dessert after dinner. "Much obliged," said he, pushing the plate aside; "I am not accustomed to take my wine in pills."--Jean Antheleme Brillat-Savarin, The Physiology of Taste

Ingredients:
Ingredients:
Meat cut into chunks (I've used roasts, steaks, or stew meat that was already cut up)
Flour
Salt and pepper
4 cups water
4 beef bullion cubes
1 cup pearl barley
Carrots, cut into bite sized pieces
Potatoes, cut into bite sized pieces
Cauliflower, cut into bite sized pieces
Celery, cut into bite sized pieces
1-2 cans green beans
4 cans beef broth
2 cans tomatoes
2 small cans tomato sauce

Directions:
Directions:
Mix flour, salt, and pepper together on a plate or in a pie pan. Coat the meat in the flour mixture and put in a pan (I use my big roaster but a big soup pan would work) with a bit of hot oil. Brown the meat.
Add the water, bullion cubes, and pearl barley
Cook for 20 ish minutes (I just let it cook while I cut up the vegetables)
Add the cut up vegetables, beef broth, tomatoes, and tomato sauce.
Cook for about an hour on medium low heat or until the vegetables are cooked.

Personal Notes:
This makes a BIG pot of soup!! It freezes great though! So you can put the leftovers in single serving containers and freeze them and then BAM easy, quick, and delicious meal another time!
