Ingredients:
9 c. melted lard (lukewarm or barely melted)
5 c. cold water
1 can Lewis lye (must be Lewis lye)

Directions:
Directions:
Put lye into a large plastic container (dish pan). Do not use metal. Pour in the water and stir with a flat wooden stick (paint stirrer). Let stand until lukewarm. Pour in melted lard slowly. stirring slowly, then stir often, until it stiffens like thick jelly. Pour into paper boxes lined with old sheets, etc. When stiff, but still soft, cut into bars. Can use in 6 weeks.
Note: Put boxes on something to protect the surface underneath, in case the lye seeps through. Be careful of eyes, arms and hands when pouring water into lye, as some steam and fumes come up. Wear rubber gloves and a long-sleeved shirt. Can use old lard or drippings.
