¼ c. butter
¼ c. shortening
1 egg, separated
½ tsp. vanilla
1 c. flour
¼ tsp. salt

chopped walnuts
buttercream frosting

Directions:
Directions:
Cream shortening, butter, sugar, egg YOLK, and vanilla together until light and fluffy. Gradually add in dry ingredients.

Roll dough into 1 inch balls. Dip in beaten egg white, then in finely chopped nuts. Bake at 350º for 5 minutes. Remove from oven and quickly press thumb gently into top of each cookie. Return to oven and bake an additional 8 minutes. Once cool, then fill with icing.

This is not a favorite of my kids, but my mom always made these and they were a traditional Christmas cookie for me.
