Ingredients:
Ingredients:
1 cup softened butter
1/2 cup sugar
2 cups flour
1 tsp vanilla or almond extract
Cherry pie filling
1 cup powdered sugar
1 1/2 tsp milk

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 375°. Cream together butter, sugar and vanilla. Mix in flour, your dough will look crumbly. Roll dough into round balls or use a cookie scoop and place on a parchment paper-lined cookie sheet. Make thumbprint in each dough ball and fill with a cherry from the pie filling. If the dough is even a little bit warm or room temperature, place your cookie sheet in the freezer for 10 minutes to allow the dough to chill back. You want the cookies in the oven while the dough is still cold to minimize spreading. Bake for 15 minutes or until edges start to get lightly brown and cookies sets up. Allow cookies to cool on the sheet for 15 minutes. Mix powdered sugar with milk to make into a thick glaze, and poor icing into a Piping Bag outlined with a fine tip and pipe icing across cookie to decorate.

Personal Notes:
I like to use almond extract in these cookies because it goes well with the cherries.
