3/4 cup shortening
1 cup sugar
1 egg
1/4 cup Brer Rabbit molasses
2 cups flour
2 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. cloves
1/2 tsp. ginger
1/2 tsp. salt

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 375°F.
Cream first 4 ingredients. Add remaining ingredients and chill several hours. Roll into 1-inch balls and roll in granulated sugar. Place on ungreased cookie sheet and bake in preheated oven for 8-10 minutes or until bottom is lightly brown.

Best if baked until chewy, not crunchy.

My absolute favorite cookie recipe! I remember making these with Grammie and Uncle Chuck when we lived in Germany. Grammie made the dough, Uncle Chuck rolled them into balls and I got to roll them into sugar. We always had them and I still feel that I need to make them every year!
