2½ cups of flour
¼ tsp salt
1 cup butter (2 sticks)
1 cup confectioners sugar
1 egg
½ tsp vanilla
½ tsp peppermint
¼ tsp red food color
½ cup crushed peppermint candies

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven 350
In a large bowl beat butter until creamy. Gradually add sugar beat until fluffy. Beat in egg vanilla and peppermint and slowly add flour and mix well.
Remove half of the dough into a piece of plastic wrap.
In other half of dough add food color and crushed peppermint candies and beat until completely mixed. Wrap in plastic wrap and refrigerate about an hour.
Take a tsp of plain dough and roll in a log about 4 inches, then take a tsp of red dough and roll in a log about 4 inches, and twist and bend in the shape of a cane.
Place 2 inches apart and bake 8 to 10 minutes
do not allow to brown
remove from baking sheet and cool on wire rack to cool
