Directions:In a large mixing bowl, cream together butter and sugar using an electric mixer; beat in eggs, vanilla, and orange rind. Combine dry ingredients and add gradually to cream mixture until well beaten. Refrigerate for about 1-2 hours, until firm.
Heat over to 350º. Lightly coat cookie sheet with cooking spray. On a well-floured surface, roll out dough to ¼ inch thickness. Using assorted cookie cutters, cut into desired shapes. Place on prepared cookie sheet about 2 inches apart. Bake for about 6 to 8 minutes until lightly brown on the edges (watch after 5 minutes because sugar cookies burn quickly.)
* Frost with Decorator Icing and decorate with sprinkles. |

Notes: Use this recipe or the Sour Cream Cutouts to continue the tradition of making iced Christmas cookies--a tradition that was passed from Nana and Mimi to us.
Christmas is a holiday that we celebrate throughout the month of December beginning with Advent at church, decorating the house, trimming the tree, and making all kinds of delicious, decadent cookies, candies and breads. My memories of the holiday are among my most vivid from when I was a child and I hope the traditions of our house have had the same meaning for you.
