½ cup butter
½ cup shortening
1½ cups sugar
2 eggs
2¾ cups flour
2 tsp. cream of tartar
1 tsp. baking soda
¼ tsp. salt

Topping
½ granulated sugar
1 tsp. cinnamon

1. Preheat oven to 400 ºF.
2. Mix butter, shortening, sugar, and eggs thoroughly.
3. Blend flour, cream of tartar, baking soda, and salt. Stir this dry mixture into creamed mixture in step 2.
4. Shape dough into 1 inch balls.
5. Mix sugar and cinnamon in a small bowl. Roll the balls in cinnamon and sugar mixture.
6. Place balls 2 inches apart on ungreased baking sheet.
7. Bake 8 - 10 minutes. These cookies puff up at first, then flatten out.
