½ cup shortening
1 cup sugar
1 egg
1 cup applesauce
2 - 2½ cups flour
½ tsp salt
½ tsp baking soda
½ tsp cinnamon
1 tsp baking powder
Chocolate Chips
Nuts (optional)

Directions:
Directions:
Cream together the shortening and sugar. Add the egg and applesauce. Mix in the flour, salt, baking soda, cinnamon and baking powder. Stir in the chocolate chips and nuts. Bake at 350º for 10 - 12 minutes.

This is my kids favorite cookie recipe. Grandma Brinkerhoff always had a big bag of these cookies in her freezer. All of my kids make this recipe often.
