½ c. shortening or butter, 1c. sugar, 2 sm. eggs
1c. molasses, 1c. cold water
4c. flour, 1tsp. baking soda, 2 tsp. ginger, 1tsp. nutmeg, 1 tsp. cloves, 1tsp cinnamon


Icing (light glaze):
1c. powdered sugar, 1tsp. vanilla, cream or milk to make it easy to spread

Directions:
Directions:
Mix shortening or butter with sugar and eggs
add molasses and water to the above ingredients and stir.
Sift together and add the following: flour, soda, nutmeg, ginger, cloves and cinnamon.

Chill dough. Heat oven to 400º

Drop rounded teaspoons about 2" apart on a greased baking sheet. Bake 7-9 min. until almost no imprint remains when touched with finger.

While slightly warm frost with icing.
