½ cup butter
½ cup butter flavored shortening
1 cup sugar
3 eggs
1½ tsp vanilla
3¼ cups sifted flour
1 tsp baking soda
¾ tsp salt
2 tsp cream of tartar

Decorative Frosting
2 cups sifted powdered sugar
2 tbsp. hot water
¼ tsp vanilla
Food coloring as desired

Preheat oven 425ºF
Cream butter and shortening together. Add sugar and cream well. Beat in eggs and vanilla. Sift all dry ingredients together. Gradually add to wet mixture. Chill dough for at least 1 hour. Roll dough to ¼ inch thickness on lightly floured surface. Cut into fancy shapes. Placed on ungreased cookie sheet. Bake 6 to 8 minutes. Cool. Frost if desired.
