Cookie dough

1 c. soft shortening
2 c. brown sugar (packed)
3 eggs
½ c. water
1 tsp. vanilla
3½ c. flour (sifted)
½ tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking soda
⅛ tsp. cinnamon

Directions:
Directions:
Heat oven to 375º. Mix thoroughly shortening, brown sugar, and eggs. Stir in water and vanilla. Sift together flour, salt, soda, and cinnamon and add to mixture. Drop with teaspoon dough on ungreased baking sheet. Place ½ tsp. date filling on dough, then another ½ tsp dough on top of filling.

Bake until lightly brown for 10-12 minutes.

¾ c. sugar
¾ c. water (or less)
½ c. chopped nuts, (optional, I use walnuts)

Cook together dates, sugar and water, slowly, stirring constantly until thickened. Add nuts. Cool
