1/2 cup shortening
1 cup sugar
1 egg
3/4 cup buttermilk
1 teaspoon vanilla
1-3/4 cup sifted flour
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup cocoa

Directions:
Directions:
Mix shortening, sugar, and egg. Stir in buttermilk and vanilla.
Stir dry ingredients together and combine. Chill for one hour.
Heat oven to 400°.
Drop with a teaspoon 2 inches apart on a lightly greased cookie sheet.
Bake for 8 to 10 minutes.
Frost with a favorite chocolate icing.

We lived in Denton when Jimmy was finishing school. My neighbor, Tabor Rowe, gave me this recipe in 1955. Judy was little and just loved them.
