4 cans of Green Beans drained
1 stick of Margarine
4 Slices of Bacon - uncooked chopped ( prefer Applewood or Maple flavored bacon)
2 can of Cream of Mushroom
2 T chopped onion flakes
2 T Garlic Powder
1 T Black Pepper
Velveeta Cheese
¾ c Sliced Almonds

1. Preheat oven 375º

2. In a large skillet place butter and chopped bacon slices cook on medium heat for about 10 mins. Stirring occasionally ( Bacon does not have to be completely crispy just cooked to a soft tender).

3. Add the cans of drained green beans, cream of mushroom, onion flakes, garlic powder and black pepper to the bacon mixture. Stir together until mixed well. Cook on top of stove for about 5 minutes. Stirring occasionally

4. Using a large casserole dish coat with non-stick spray. Pour green bean mixture in to dish and spread out evenly.

5. Cut the velveeta cheese into slice and lay along top of green bean mixture, then evenly sprinkle almond slice across the top.

6. Place in the oven. Bake until cheese melts

My mom had to figure out how to get the kids to eat green bean casserole. She thought about how kids like cheese and what could she substitute the fried onions with to still add the crunch on top. She came up with the recipe and we started asking for green bean casserole every year.
