3 c. sifted flour
2 tsp. ground cinnamon
2 tsp. ground ginger
1/2 tsp. ground cloves
1 c. butter
1 1/2 c. sugar
1 egg
2 T. dark corn syrup
2 tsp. soda
1 T. water
grated rind of one whole orange
slivered almonds if desired

Directions:

1. Sift together flour, cinnamon, ginger & cloves.

2. Cream butter, add sugar and cream again. Beat in egg and syrup. Dissolve soda in warm water and add to creamed ingredients. Add orange rind and sifted dry ingredients. Mix well.

3. Form into rolls and chill overnight.

4. Roll very think on slightly floured pastry cloth. Cut into desired shapes. Place pieces of amonds on ends if desired.

5. Arrange on ungreased cookie sheets. Bake at 400º for 5-10 min.

We found this in Nana's recipe box after she passed. It says it is from "Swedish Recipes Old and New", American Daughters of Sweden, Chicago 1955. No one knows if she used this recipe or how it tastes! Time to be adventurous.
