Crust:
3 cups flour
1 tsp salt
1 cup shortening
Water for consistency

Filling:
6-8 tart apples
1 cup sugar
2 Tbsp flour
1 tsp cinnamon
dash of nutmeg
2 Tbsp butter

Directions:
Directions:
Crust:
Stir together flour and salt. Blend in shortening until flour crumbles to about pea sized. Add water until dough is moist and ready to roll out.

Filling:
In a bowl, slice peeled apples. Combine sugar, flour and spices. Toss apples in dry mixture to coat.

Line 9-inch pie plate with crust. Fill with filling mixture, dot with butter (1 Tbs for each pie). Adjust top crust and make slits for steam. Sprinkle with sugar. Bake at 400º for 50 minutes.
