1 cup margarine ( 2 sticks)
1 1/4 cup sugar
1 egg
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 1/2 cups sifted flour
1 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup finely chopped green candied cherries
green food coloring
1 square (1 ounce) unsweetened chocolate, melted
1/4 cup finely chopped walnuts

In a mixing bowl cream butter, gradually add sugar and beat until light and fluffy. Beat in egg and vanilla. Sift together flour, baking powder, and salt; gradually add to the creamed mixture. Divide dough into three parts. To one part add food coloring to tint to desired color; add cherries. To the second part add chocolate and walnuts. Leave the third part plain. Chill for ease in handling. Line a 1 1/2 quart loaf dish with aluminum foil. Pack cherry dough in layer on the bottom, cover with chocolate dough. Top with the layer of plain dough. Chill overnight, Lift dough from pan with foil. Cut into 1/8 inch slices. Place on baking sheet; bake 8-10 minutes in a preheated 375 degree oven. Remove to wire rack to cool.
