Personal Notes:
This recipe comes from Grandma's next door neighbor, Ann Sunker. Her daughter Charlene was the flower girl in Grandma Neva's wedding. Grandma Neva made these every Christmas. They are one of my favorites Grandma Hinkle came from a tough life in West Virginia so we often perceived her as rigid, but providing food for us and crocheting us gifts was her love language. We were not allowed to sit on the made beds or do anything to mess up or clutter her home. We were generally not excited to go and spend the night with her. There were only 4 TV channels in those days and Grandma and Grandpa held the power over which channel that we watched. Saturday nights were Lawrence Welk and because Grandpa had had a heart attack, popcorn came without salt or butter. Grandma always said, "I popped it in oil; you don't need butter!" The high point was when Grandpa put those wax color changers in the fireplace and when the Lennon Sisters sang. We all still laugh about Lawrence Welk and the boring Saturday nights.
