1 cup water
2 cups raisins
1 cup shortening
1 3/4 cups sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp vanilla
3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 tsp baking powder
1 tsp soda
1 tsp salt
1 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp nutmeg
1/2 cup walnuts, chopped

Directions:
Directions:
Combine water and raising in a small saucepan. Bring to a boil and cook for 3 minutes; remove from heat, and let cool (do not drain). In a mixing bowl, cream shortening, gradually adding sugar, eggs and vanilla. Combine dry ingredients, add to creamed mixture, and blend well. Fold in nuts and raisins. Drop by teaspoonful 2 inches apart on greased baking sheet. Bake at 350º for 12-14 minutes. Makes about 6 dozen.
