1 lb dates
¼ c sugar
1 c water
½ c walnuts or pecans (your choice)

Directions:
In saucepan, cook dates, sugar and water until dates are soft and sugar is dissolved. Add nuts if desired and cool.
 

Dough

1 c sugar
1 c shortening or butter
1/2 c sour milk
2 c flour
1 t baking soda
2 c oatmeal
1/4 t salt

Directions:
Directions:
Mix dough ingredients together. Spread 1/2 the dough on ungreased 11 x 15" pan. Spread filling over dough. Then spread rest of dough on top. Bake at 350 degrees until done.

Recipe didn't say how long to bake. Would suggest starting at 20 minutes and then checking every 5 minutes until toothpick put into just the dough comes out clean.

Recipe card also suggests some like it better with half the amount of filling to dough.
