3 cups flour
2 tsp cream of tartar
1 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
1 cup lard (or 1/2 cup butter or 1/2 c shortening)
2 eggs
1 cup sugar
1 tsp vanilla

Directions:
Directions:
Measure dry ingredients together. Cut shortening into dry ingredients with pastry blender (like pie crust). Beat eggs until frothy. Beat in sugar and vanilla with egg beater. Add egg mixture to dry ingredients. Roll into small balls - dip in sugar. Can make funny faces with chocolate chips, raisins, etc.

Bake 8-10 minutes at 375º.

These were the first cookies I ever made. I was probably 6 or 7 at the time. My favorite face used was chocolate chips!
