1 c. sugar
½ tsp. salt
1 c. margarine, softened
1 (3 oz.) pkg. cream cheese, softened
½ tsp. almond extract
½ tsp. vanilla extract
1 egg yolk (reserve egg white)
2¼ c. all-purpose flour
Maraschino cherries and/or fruit preserves (I usually use strawberry, blueberry, raspberry or apricot preserves)

Directions:
Directions:
Combine sugar, salt, margarine, cream cheese, extracts and egg yolk.
Beat to mix well.
Stir in flour.
Chill dough for at least 30 minutes.
Roll dough into 1 inch balls with your hands and place on cookie sheet.
With your thumb, make an imprint in center of cookie.
Press maraschino cherry or spoon preserves into center imprint.
Preheat oven to 350º
Bake for a total of 7-10 minutes, brush egg white over top of cookies for last ½ of baking.
