2 cups flour
4 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. crème of tartar (optional)
2 tsp. sugar
1/2 cup shortening or butter, softened
2/3 cup milk

Directions:
Directions:
Mix together dry ingredients. Cut in shortening (use two knives to combine shortening and flour into a mixture that resembles coarse crumbs.) Add milk all at once. Stir until dough follows fork around the bowl.

Pat or roll 1/2 in. thick and cut with a biscuit cutter, or just drop a spoonful onto an ungreased cookie sheet. Bake at 450 degrees for 10 minutes.
