5 eggs
1 cup butter (2 sticks)
5+ cups flour*
1½ cups sugar
5+ Tsp. baking powder
1 tbs + ½ tsp Anise extract
1 tbs + ½ tsp vanilla
¾ cup finely chopped almonds or walnuts (optional)
1 oz pkg sesame seeds


* option is 2½ cups of each wheat and all purpose flours

Directions:

Preheat oven to 375ºF.
1. Beat eggs and butter together. Blend in sugar and extracts.

2. Add flour and baking powder -1 cup flour + 1 tsp. baking powder at a time. Continue to add flour until it forms a very stiff dough that holds its shape when pressed together- almost/barely sticky. Chill one hour.

3. Roll into long loaves, then roll in sesame seeds. Bake on parchment lined cookie sheet for approximately 12 minutes or until toothpick comes out clean from center of cookie roll.

4. Remove from oven and cool 15 minutes and slice diagonally into 3/4 inch slices. Bake again for about 10 minutes or until golden.
