Note from Carol Ann

This was a popular cookie growing up frequently made by mom or dad.
Our home in Ventura had 2 walnut trees in the back yard. The "nutmeat" was always walnuts!

Trivia: Nene and I always had walnut duty in fall. Our chore was to sit in the garage for hours
using a small anvil and hammer and crack walnuts. Mom wanted perfect walnut halves as she would send to family and friends as Christmas presents. I can still see the cellophane bags with red ribbon.
