Grandma Doughnuts Recipe

1 1/3 c sugar
1/2 c butter
2 eggs
1 c buttermilk
4 c CAKE flour
3 tsp baking powder
1 tsp baking soda
1/4 tsp salt
1/2 tsp nutmeg
1 tsp vanilla

3 lbs Lard

Directions:
Directions:
Mix together liquid ingredients. Do not over mix. Slowly add dry ingredients. Roll onto a lightly floured board, approx 1/4 in thick. Cut doughnuts with doughnut cutter.

Heat lard to 365° in sauce pan. Drop cut doughnuts gently into lard. When it rises to surface, gently flip without piercing. Cook until light to medium brown and then flip to cook other side. Remove from lard and place on paper towel to soak excess lard. (I change layers of paper towel often to make sure doughnut aren't grease soaked.
