2 cups brown sugar
1/2 cup melted shortening
2 eggs
1/2 tsp. vanilla
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 level Tablespoon soda
1/2 level Tablespoon cream of tartar
1/2 cup ground nuts
3 1/2 cups flour, add gradually

Directions:
Directions:
Mix ingredients thoroughly. Dough will be stiff. Roll into loaves (like bread). Wrap in waxed paper. Place in refrigerator 3 hours or overnight. Slice and bake at 350º until lightly browned.
