1 Cup Brown Sugar
1 Cup White Sugar
1 Cup Shortening
2 Cups Flour
2 Eggs
1 Teaspoon Soda
1 Teaspoon Baking Powder
¼ Teaspoon Salt
1 Teaspoon Vanilla
1 Cup Coconut
2 Cups Oatmeal
½ Cup Nuts
1 Cup Gum Drops Cut Fine

Directions:
Directions:
Cream sugars, shortening and eggs. Add soda, baking powder, salt, vanilla and mix well. Add dry ingredients one at a time. Mix after each. Drop in balls on greased cookie sheet and flatten
slightly with bottom of small glass dipped in sugar. Bake at 350º for approximately 8 minutes or until set. Cool 2 minutes before removing from cookie sheet to cooling rack.

I remember this being my Dad's favorite cookie. I can still see him sitting at the table with his little knife cutting up the gum drops while Mom mixed the rest of the ingredients. That was his job!
