1 Cup sugar
1 T.Ginger
2 tsp cinnamon
2 tsp cloves
1/2 Cup water
1/2 Cup dark Karo syrup
1 Cup butter
4 Cups flour
1-1/2 tsp baking soda

Directions:
Directions:
In small saucepan, bring to a boil sugar, spices, water and syrup. Remove from heat and pour over butter that is in a large mixing bowl; stir until butter melts. Cool mixture until lukewarm. Stir in flour and soda. Cover and refrigerate overnight.

Divide dough into fourths; roll on very lightly floured board. Cut into desired shapes; place on ungreased cookie sheet and bake at 375 degree for 12 to 15 minutes. This dough works very easily. All scraps can be re-rolled. Decorate cookies as desired with ornamental frosting. Makes 2 dozen 8" gingerbread men or many more regular-sized cookies.
