Dissolve 1 pkg. yeast in ½ c. warm water and ½ tbsp. sugar. Let sit until frothy, 5 - 10 min. (the old-fashioned way).
1 ½ c. lukewarm milk
¼ c. sugar
½ c. butter and lard mixed
2 well beaten eggs
½ tsp. salt
Add flour to make a soft dough

Directions:

In a mixer or by hand, combine all ingredients until a soft dough forms, and knead until soft and elastic. Let rise in a large greased bowl until double in bulk, Roll out into 4 circles size of pie plates, Cut each in 8 section triangles, roll each up jelly-roll style starting a wide end. Set on baking pans and let rise until double. Bake at 400º for 15 min. These may be iced with icing sugar icing and topped with finely chopped nuts if desired.
