* 1/2 cup butter
* 3/4 cup sugar
* 2 tsp vanilla extract
* 1 egg
* 1¾ cup flour
* 1/2 tsp baking powder
* 1/2 tsp salt
* 1 oz square unsweetened chocolate melted & cooled

Cream together butter, sugar, vanilla and egg. Add flour baking powder and salt mixing well, Divide dough in half and blend cool melted chocolate into one half and chill. Roll remaining dough into a 10 x 12 inch rectangle, 1/8 inch thick. Roll the chocolate dough the same size. Brush white layer with milk and put chocolate layer on top of white layer. Roll the two layers together until 3/16 inch thick. Roll up tightly beginning at wide side, chill cookie roll until firm. To bake cut cookie roll into 1/8 inch thick slices and place on ungreased cookie sheet, bake at 350º for 8 to 10 minutes, or until lightly brown on edges. This recipe makes 4 to 5 dozen cookies.
